An experimental system that clears intersections by market instead of traffic light. Each vehicle's AI agent negotiates for right of way, weighing urgency and its funds, and settles with a micropayment. Small instant payments run without handing over keys, sketching traffic as it might look once driving is autonomous.
Judges called replacing a traffic light with a market mechanism a novel idea and an interesting attempt to apply agents to mobility. They found reason in how agreements are designed to form, and credited the technical implementation as well.
An encouragement award tends to reward the question more than immediate usefulness. A traffic light halts everyone and hands out turns; this project swaps in a different principle, whoever is in a hurry pays for priority. What lifts it above a thought experiment is that negotiation does not end in words but runs through to settlement, so an agreement actually closes. Deployment would need social consent long before engineering, but that was presumably not the axis here.
