Pick a dish and the app renders your order in the local language to show the waiter, and it keeps past lookups.
Everyone can picture the moment: a menu you cannot read and a waiter waiting. The pain needs no explaining. What likely mattered is that the team did not stop at OCR and translation. The explanation and the generated image give a diner something to judge a dish by, and the local-language order sentence carries the user all the way to ordering rather than leaving them halfway. Given the award's name, that leap beyond an ordinary translation tool seems to be what registered.
