A dark-fantasy RPG where every player decision becomes a vector 'soul history' — NPCs quote your exact past deeds in dialogue, and story gates unlock based on accumulated episodic memory, all powered by Qdrant Cloud.
At a vector database hackathon, using the database for game memory rather than document retrieval is what catches the eye. RAG demos are saturated; storing decisions so NPCs can quote specific past deeds turns retrieval itself into the entertainment. It also makes the technology legible: a judge can feel whether the memory works within minutes of play. Games are hard to score on usefulness, so third place fits, but it widens what the sponsor's tool is seen to be for.
Eight winners across two Qdrant hackathons all treat the question of what to remember, and how, as the actual subject.
When something that is not a business problem wins, there is always a mechanism that lands instantly.
